New Solution for Kidney Stone Treatment Now Available at Center for Urology in Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY, June 12,2024— Center for Urology in Rochester now offers a groundbreaking, minimally invasive treatment option for kidney stone sufferers. The SURE procedure is a novel approach to kidney stone removal that uses ureteroscopy (a catheter with a tiny camera that travels through the urinary tract) to break up stones with a laser fiber, then gently removes the stone fragments with irrigation and vacuum aspiration, leaving behind a stone-free kidney.

Landmark data from the ASPIRE clinical trial, unveiled at the American Urological Association’s 2024 annual meeting, demonstrates that the SURE procedure surpasses the current standard of care (standard ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy) in terms of kidney stone clearance. One year post-procedure, patients treated with SURE experienced fewer visits to the emergency department, hospitalizations, and need for retreatment compared to those who underwent standard ureteroscopy.

The SURE procedure is performed exclusively with the CVAC System, an all-in-one device designed for complete stone clearance. The CVAC System represents a significant leap forward in kidney stone treatment, combining ureteroscopy, laser lithotripsy, irrigation, and aspiration into a single, streamlined procedure, which has never been available before.

Center for Urology is proud to be the pioneer in Rochester and surrounding area to offer this cutting-edge technology. "The Calyxo CVAC system offers us a new technology to treat large kidney stones with minimally invasive surgery that historically have required open procedures or percutaneous nephrolithotripsy which incur greater morbidity to the patient and longer hospitalizations.," stated Dr. Oleyourryk from Center for Urology.

Given that approximately 10% of the U.S. population will encounter kidney stones at some stage in their life, as reported by the American Urological Association, the condition not only causes significant discomfort but also leads to considerable healthcare expenditures. The introduction of the SURE procedure using the CVAC System represents a significant stride toward alleviating these burdens.
